Day 15: Fred's kitchen

After a certan Marquis De Sade bailed on tonights plans to hit up the Dirty Mission (yes Dirty with a capital D. Have you ever been to the Mission?) for some dinner in the citys Mexican food mecca, I was left without my usual well thought out plan for where the days tacos would come from. A quick trip to Safeway seemed like the perfect way to get myself back on track. While perusing the meat section, I stumbled onto Chi-Chi's tub-o-shredded chicken. It said in no uncertain terms that it was in fact for tacos, so into my basket it went. Some La Tortilla Factory CORN tortillas (they are the best), and a jug of Guac and I was ready to roll. Into the microwave went the tortillas, chicken, black beans, and a little pepperjack. 60 seconds later out came two steaming tacos as if by magic! A dollop of guac, and dinner was served. Not the most impressive looking tacos, but that tub-o-chicken turned out to be mighty tasty. Thank you Chi-Chi's!

  1. Are you saying CORN tortillas are the best or La Tortilla Factory is the best (obviously authentically Mexican) brand of tortilla?

Also it looks like the poll IS talking and relegating the Choco Taco haters to the short bus with the 9/11 truthers…

PS. you just mentioned the Marquis De Sade, jugs, Chi chi’s, and capital D’s in the same post is there some sort of Da Fredi Code in there I am missing?

  2. Personally, I've never had a satistfying choco taco. My only experience has been the frost bitten choco taco dessert from the toothless ice cream man that travels the San Diego beach scene. While I did vote 'yes' in today's poll, I do so in hopes that I will one day find that ultimate Choco Taco - warm melted ice cream, heavenly hot fudge over a toasted choco/flour tortilla. (Don't forget the sprinkles!) I guess the question is "what makes a taco a taco?" The tortilla? The combo of salsa, meat, beans, etc? I hope to discover the answer to that question and more on the Daily Taco.
