Day 104: Gordo

I had to head for Gordo today to get back to my taco roots. I had been so poor in my recent Daly Taco efforts that I was questioning my resolve to complete my year of tacos. A quick lunch trip to Gordo was all it took to reafirm my dedication to the greatest of Mexican culinary inventions. As soon as I entered Gordo on Geary, I was overcome with the taco Joy that originally led me to surmise I may be able to acomplish this, the greateast of taco feats; eating a taco a day for one American year. I ordered my carnitas tacos, and, as I watched them being prepared, I felt a calming wave rush over me. After days of self-doubt, Gordo was the obvious catalyst to jumpstart my resugent taco posting career. P.S. I have been remiss in scheduling the next Taco Tuesday. With the holidays so close by, I am afraid it won't be till early 2008. Rest assured Senor Salty faithful, barring any unforseen conflicts, it is being planned for the second Tuesday in January.

  1. Gordo's on Geary is going back to your roots? You shame us all. The birthplace of Sunset dwellers Mexican tastiness is on 9th Ave right by the imposter Subcenter, which is clearly located next to the Philosopher's club, or would you prefer 9th Ave for a super atomic or a sandwich with 2 spledid hams...? You have changed, if I hear that you are ordering Zima's or Tequiza's out at bars that will be the final straw.

  2. Thought I would bring to the attention of all of the faithful that there are no offical taco's at Chevy's. In between Bohemia's and tequila shots (what am I, 18?) I ordered some of God's most wonderful creations, what arrived a couple minutes later was not encased in mandatory corn tortilla. I do have to confess that instead of throwing them in the waiters face and storming out of the establishment, as would be an appropriate way to defend the traditional taco, I meekly accepted the profered sustenence. Just thought you should all know.

  3. I can’t decide if I hate or pity all of you corn tortilla Nazis. Let me clarify, it is not because I dislike corn tortillas quite the contrary, but because you poor unthinking lemmings are for some unknown reason determined to disregard half of the taco world to your own and senor saltys detriment…it is so sad and infuriating and sad. I for one refuse to follow you all down your corn psychosis road!

  4. I'm with Super Duper on this one. Flour tortillas are tasty, despite what you narrow-minded philistines claim.

  5. tis not that flour lacks taste or refinement; but, rather, that the confines of taquerie demand the requisite corn component.

The soft taco is simply not an authentic taco, no ifs ands or buts about it.
