Day 97: Casa de Senor Salty

Today, as I was reminicing about my many past taco meals, it dawned on me that I had never had a lamb taco. I'm not exactly sure why this thought crossed my mind. I hadn't recently crossed paths with a sheep. I haden't even been even remotely close to a farm. Mostly perplexed, I decided it would be easier to refctify this taco oversight than delve further into the workings of my sometimes overtaxed brain. Off to my favorite Safeway to peruse the lamb offerings and decide what form my taco filling would take. Rack of lamb? Too good by itself. Lamb chops? Too small. Leg of lamb? Too big. What was I to do? As I moved from the lamb section into beef products, i had almost given up hope until I spied the answer to my lamb taco conundrum at the end of the meat case. For some inexplicable reason, Safeway decided that ground lamb should be displayed next to the ground beef instead of alongside its sheeply brethren. After puzzling over this placement, I decided to follow my earlier decision to act in place of thinking. I grabbed the ground lamb, headed home, and whipped up my first lamb tacos. Paired with the leftover cucumber salsa from Monday, they were a welcome addition to my stable of taco options.

As a participant in the voyeursitc styling of TDT ( the daily taco for you initiates), I have come to appreciate and even love taco's. My regular order of "Super Burrito sans crema" has been replaced by "two taco, soft shell por favor". While this has undoubtedly has a positive impact on the snugness of my pants, I feel that I might have overlooked an essential part of my own history. As I stared blankly at the taqueria board this afternoon and contemplated the always appropriate “nachos con nachos” order this afternoon, it came to me as if in a dream. “Super grilled chicken, black beans, extra hot sauce, guac and jalapeno’s”. While I anxiously awaiting my prize, I saw printed on the window: “San Francisco’s First Burrito served 9/29/1961”. Did I miss celebrating the birthday of the San Francisco burrito? And am I OK with that? The answer is yes and no. Taco you are my friend, but I am not sure that I can commit to a monogamous relationship quite yet. I am taking a fling with my old flame Senior Burro this afternoon. I can only ask for forgiveness.

I realize you are the pro and everything but in theory…when you make a taco at home you don’t have to so completely over fill the shell that its unwieldiness causes juice to drip down your arm while lamb and salsa chunks splatter paint the table, again just a theory…PS you have crema on your nose.
